Today, on June 6, Vinnytsia hosted a meeting between Mayor Serhii Morhunov and a delegation from the Swiss Confederation, who came to our city on a working visit. The foreign partners announced the development of a new Swiss strategy aimed at rebuilding Ukraine after the war, so the head of our city presented infrastructure projects and ideas that Vinnytsia plans to implement.
These include the Krystal Innovation and Technology Park, the Yanhel-Levka Lukianenka overpass, Vinnytsia Airport, the reconstruction of Peremohy Square, the creation of new sports facilities to revitalize youth, and more. According to the Vinnytsia Mayor, the implementation of these projects will contribute to the city's economic growth and the integration of internally displaced persons into the community.
"Our city and the region in particular have become the rear, and from the first days of the full-scale invasion we have hosted internally displaced persons and relocated businesses. This is a big burden on the infrastructure. Currently, 46,000 IDPs are registered in the city, bringing the total population of our city to 404,000. The number of Vinnytsia residents who have left is much smaller than those who came to us from other regions. However, we strive to create comfortable conditions for all people who want to stay in our city in the future. And we also want all people who have gone abroad to return home as soon as possible," said Serhii Morhunov.
The Swiss guests paid great attention to the environmental component of our partnership. In particular, they offered to assist in transforming industrial parks into eco-industrial parks. They also drew attention to the fact that they can help with the area that they have been able to effectively implement in their home country - water purification systems. And, of course, we continue our cooperation in the areas of energy efficiency and energy independence.
Representatives of the delegation from the Swiss Confederation noted that they were impressed with the way Vinnytsia is developing and coping with the challenges of the war.
"We are providing expert suggestions and will decide how, for example, the Swiss experience can be used in the context of rebuilding Ukraine. Our program focuses on the whole country. But we are convinced that your community will also be able to use the tools of this program. It is very important that the various Swiss ministries develop a coherent strategy to support Ukraine. We will be able to take some of the presented projects into account. Switzerland will remain committed to your city," said Alexandra Baumann, Head of the Prosperity and Sustainability Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
Serhii Morhunov also added that, given the previous years of fruitful cooperation, any project that will be implemented jointly is doomed to success.
