Yesterday, on April 18, Andreas Huber, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine, visited Vinnytsia to mark the final stage of the first delivery of Swiss trams. He visited the tram depot, where he inspected the newly arrived Tram 2000 cars and talked to representatives of Vinnytsia City Council and specialists of Vinnytsia Transport Company.

Andreas Huber noted that despite the delay in the delivery, he was pleased to see that the Tram 2000 cars had arrived and would be used for passenger transportation in Vinnytsia in the future.

"I live in Zurich and many trams, perhaps even the ones that arrived in Vinnytsia, used to run past my house windows every day. But trams are only one component and only part of a much larger and longer-term, forward-looking partnership between municipalities," says Andreas Huber.

The Department of Transport and Urban Mobility notes that employees of Vinnytsia Transport Company have already begun work on adapting Tram 2000 tramcars.

"Employees of Vinnytsia Transport Company are currently working on adapting the tramcars, but this process is somewhat lengthy, so we hope that the first 5 units will be on the line in the summer," said Andrii Sorokin, director of the Department of Transport and Urban Mobility.

It is worth recalling that Vinnytsia's cooperation with Switzerland has been going on since 2006. During the first phase of the Zurich Trams project (2006-2011), Vinnytsia received 116 tramcars, and in the second phase, our community is to receive 35 Tram 2000 trams.

The memorandum on the second phase of the project was signed in December 2020. The non-refundable contribution of SECO (Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs) to its implementation is CHF 3,200,000.
