Europe Day-2019 in Vinnytsia

For over 12 years Vinnytsia community celebrates Europe Day. This year, at the beginning of the holiday, Vinnytsia citizens and the guests of the city were given a waltz as a present – more than four hundred participants waltzed on Independence Square. The representatives of the embassies, the international partner institutions of the city, delegations from the twin cities came to congratulate Vinnytsia residents with Europe Day. Traditionally, on this day, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman celebrated with the community.

Before the announcement of the official opening of Europe Day on the main square of the city, Vinnytsia schoolchildren waltzed – such a mass performance for the first time: more than four hundred participants! After that, traditionally, the hymns of the European Union and Ukraine were performed, as well as the flags of the EU and our country were raised. This year, the honorable right to raise the flag of the European Union was given to the mayor of the Polish sister city of Kielce Bogdan Wenta and the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Vinnytsia Damian Ciarciński.

Congratulating Vinnytsia residents and guests of the city on the occasion of Europe Day, the Head of Government Volodymyr Groisman said: “12 years ago we determined that for us Europe Day is not just a symbolic holiday, it is our aspiration, because Ukraine is rightfully the center of Europe. A country that has limitless possibilities and through making the right decisions, through the definition of the right priorities – we can make changes. And we together for a little more than 10 years have proved that if we want something, if we are united, if we believe each other, we can change our lives with our own efforts. I am deeply convinced that what we have done in Vinnytsia, we have to do all over the country. Yes, it is quite difficult, but I believe that we will continue to do everything to bring Ukraine closer to a united European family. We have a very difficult way ahead of us, but we will definitely pass it, because Vinnytsia citizens and Ukrainians are the best, and Ukraine is and will be a successful, strong, developed European state.”

The Head of Vinnytsia Regional State Administration Valerii Korovii congratulated with Europe Day all those who have gathered this day on the Independence Square, “Today, we pass a lot of emotions through our hearts, the positive energy that comes from each of us in the quest to do good, give birth to children, grow them and just be happy. In fact, the Ukrainian choice is based on these clear and simple things. Indeed, Vinnytsia, due to a variety of circumstances, has become, today, the informal European capital of Ukraine during the celebration of Europe Day, which we together create. Special thanks to Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman that he is today as all the years with Vinnytsia people.”

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov noted that much of the city has changed since last year’s Europe Day, but at the same time, many things are preserving and growing. “Vinnytsia became one of the first big cities in Ukraine, where an amalgamated territorial community was formed, as the village of Desna joined us. We all together developed and adopted the Concept of Integrated City Development until 2030. During this year, two powerful enterprises were built: «GreenCool» and «KNESS». However, we continue to build and repair roads, kindergartens, schools, hospitals, renovate municipal transport, and develop cycling movement. Just yesterday, communal services with architects gave Vinnytsia a renovated arch and an entrance to the Central Park. None of this would have been possible without a decentralization reform. And here, separately and rightfully, I would like to thank, on behalf of all Vinnytsia people, Volodymyr Borysovych and the whole team of the Government for the great work that has been done to make strong and capable territorial communities in Ukraine! And I have high hopes that this reform and many other important transformations will continue,” said Serhii Morhunov. “I am sure that together we will keep everything that we have done, and we will continue to develop and build our own Vinnytsia.”

Europe Day, which has been celebrated in the EU since 1985, has become a symbol of a new beginning, a free and successful path, peaceful co-operation between sovereign nations based on common values and common interests, peace, solidarity, democracy , people’s welfare and the rule of law. And the very desire for a European standard of living, European values and standards determined the European choice of Ukraine.
